Safe-Inverness

Government funding for Scotland’s cities to employ Safer City Centre Co-ordinators led to ICCM making a successful bid for a co-ordinator to be appointed within Inverness.

Douglas Wynd was appointed the position in February 2004.

The initiative “safeinverness” was officially launched in Inverness on the 26th March 2004 with the aim of making the City Centre a safe place for all to live, work and visit. An action plan was very quickly agreed highlighting eight core actions needed to deliver a Safer City Centre. The core being information sharing between the Business Sector, Northern Constabulary and the Highland Council.

The Steering Group and Business Member structure was formulated in June 2004. The initiative is now supported by over 70cc business members.

Protocols were written and agreed by the steering group. All business members are required to sign this upon joining the initiative.

Several objectives were agreed within the early stages of safeinverness and outlined in a detail plan. The initiatives first Annual Report 04/05 illustrates the progress made in the first year of operation.
